Happy Fall Y'all!

It finally feels like fall here in Kansas City! There is SO much to see and do and we've been trying to see it all! As usual, we've had several visitors! We always love having visitors though because it gives us an excuse to go out and enjoy everything!

A few months ago, our dear friend Stauffer came to visit us! He is getting ready to go to pilot's training for the Air Force, so we will miss him a lot, but we are really excited for him! Here are a few pictures from our visit to the go-kart track while Stauffer was in town!

Jeff and Stauffer with their fancy racing helmets on. They were pretty darn fast! :)

Stauffer in his race car.

Jeff in his car!

Jeff's parent's came in town one weekend for a conference. We went and got some great barbeque and then headed to the driving range. Jeff has taken up golf in the last year and he has gotten pretty darn good.

Here's Tiger Woods himself getting ready to drive the ball!

Like father like son! Here's Bruce showing off his drive!

In September, my brother John came to Kansas City to visit! It was a super busy weekend, and we packed a lot into a short visit!

John and I headed to Louisburg and visited the Louisburg Cider Mill! It was a lot of fun and we picked up some Cider Donuts and Apple Cider!

John took the Amtrak back to St. Louis. We got to see a little bit of Union Station when we dropped John off!

A little brotherly love :)

Two posts in two days! Woohoo! But we have way more to show and tell about! Stay tuned for another update soon!

Until next time from Kansas,

We're Still Here...

So... we've been a little MIA these last couple of weeks, err.... months! Ahh... we are sorry! But, I guess in one way, our lack of posts means we've been doing ALL kinds of awesome stuff! So now we finally get to share it all!

At the beginning of August, we took our first official Robertson Family Vacation! Clinton State Park near Lawrence, Kansas was our destination!
We bought a 8 man tent so that we can hopefully take lots of big group camping trips in the next couple of years.

We set up all our camping stuff right next to our tent and made a bunch of meals at our campsite!

The delicious kabobs Jeff made for dinner on Saturday night! It was finally cool enough to actually make dinner! Saturday afternoon was so so so hot because of course we picked the hottest weekend in August for our trip!

A nice view of Clinton Lake.

Later in August, we traveled to Table Rock Lake near Springfield, Missouri two times, once with my family and once on our own for a camping trip.

A view of Branson Landing. Jeff and I made a trip into town from our campsite to eat Mexican for lunch. It was delicious!

Our campsite right on the lake in Kimberling City. We had absolutely perfect weather for the weekend and a few friends from St. Louis joined us for the weekend.

Setting up the whole camp. It was pretty nice!

The choppy lake. So busy for Labor Day weekend!

Jeff driving a boat! That's right... he got his boating license and drove us all over the lake! So fun!

One last picture from out near our campsite! Such a fun weekend!

Well, that's a tiny little update, but we promise, there is more to come very, very soon! Like later this week! We've still been exploring Kansas City and hanging out with all kinds of friends!

Until next time from Kansas,

Em and Hubs

Dog Days in KC

Now from the title of this post, you may think that I finally got the long awaited puppy for my birthday that I have wanted since we got married. If you think that, you are wrong... BUT, I did have a great birthday. Jeff made me homemade cinnamon rolls and surprised me with a brand new laptop! It is the coolest! But anyways, summer in KC has flown by and we've stayed very busy! We have now been married for 5 months, and are having so much fun together! Here's a recap of summer so far:

We found this gently used, matching furniture set that someone in our complex was getting rid of. Jeff and I looked it over, and decided that as the old saying goes "someone's trash, is Jeff and Emily's treasure." :) Call us crazy, but it was definitely the right price (FREE!)

Our oversized lounge chair. It's so comfy!

Our friends Jessica and Brian came to visit us on their
trip home to see their family! They are moving back to the area and
we can't wait for them to be here to hang out.

Jeff and I headed to Fulton for a wedding and to celebrate the rest
of the weekend. We got a little shooting in during the afternoon.

Later in the month, Jeff had a all-day welding class, so
I headed home to St. Louis and got to see some of the events for
the All-Star game.

My brother enjoying all the free swag downtown.

At Busch Stadium for the Minor League All-Star game.

Since we are on the topic of baseball, Jeff and I took in
a KC T-Bones game during July. It was "Mullet Night" as part
of their Redneck weekend. If you came with a Mullet you
got in for free, but I just couldn't get Jeff to grow out his hair. :)

Jeff and I at the game.

Whew what a month it was... And that is only a summary of everything we did. Stay tuned for a BIG post about our first official Robertson Family Summer Vacation. It's going to be a good one!

Until next time from Kansas,

Discovering and enjoying summer in KC

We have decided that since we don't know how long we will be in Kansas City, we might as well see as much of it as we possibly can! The town has lots of hidden gems and fun things to do... and the weather has cooperated with us so far! That being said, it hasn't been the perfect temperature (today was a high of 93 degrees!!), but at least we are used to the heat and the humidity!!

Last weekend, we visited the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens! It's only about 15 minutes away from where we live. The day turned out to be beautiful, even though earlier in the day, it was rainy! We even saw a wedding taking place as we were walking around the park!

The entrance to the park.

A chili pepper garden at the park.

Some of the many patches of flowers at the garden.

This weekend, we were able to go to a Royals game! But, this wasn't just any game, it was the opening game of the I-70 series in KC! The Cardinals were in town and I was so excited to see them play! We had a blast and the Cardinals won 10-5 and went on the sweep the whole series! It was a good weekend to be Cardinals fans! The best par, Kiewit gave out free tickets, so it was a fun, free night out!

Do you see more red or blue? I'm thinking there's a little more red! :)

We even got to see JR. and Manda, friends from Mizzou! They just happened to be at the game that night too... They are getting married next month and it seems that when it comes to Cardinals and Royals, they will be a house divided.

We even stayed for Friday night fireworks! Definitely a fun night in Kansas City!

To top off the weekend, we headed to the Plaza to eat dinner on Saturday night! Jeff had been wanting to try a Brazilian Steakhouse called Fogo de Chao. I was a little skeptical because it was a chain, but boy did he prove me wrong! It was fantastic and very, very filling! We had no idea what we were in for, but it ended up being a buffet. Only, it was the BEST buffet we had ever been to! The meal started out with a delicious salad buffet and then quickly we decided to move on to the main course: 15 cuts of various meat, including grilled pork, bacon-wrapped chicken, garlic beef and filet mignon! And you could eat as much as you want! As soon as your plate was empty a waiter would come around with another cut of beef and slice off a piece to put on your plate! It was amazing and we were completely stuffed after it all! We definitely recommend it for a special night out!! We will definitely be going back!

It is located in the middle of the Plaza!

Yummmm!

You can view everything cooking as you walk by the restaurant on the street. That is A LOT of food!

While it has taken me awhile to adjust to Kansas City, we are definitely enjoying exploring the city and what it has to offer. It's been so much fun, and the summer isn't even half over! It's just started! If you are looking for a fun place to visit for a weekend trip, come to KC! We'd love to explore it with you!

Until next time from Kansas,

Jeff and Em

It's been a long time...

So it's been over a month since our last post and we've been busy traveling and hosting friends and family at our home! It's pretty much been like the Robertson Bed and Breakfast. We might as well hang up a sign and make it official! It's been wonderful but these next couple of weeks, we will be staying around here and exploring KC for ourself.

The first weekend in May, I took a weekend and traveled with my good friend, Jacylyn, to Kentucky to stay with some old friends in Lexington and then go to the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs!

The next weekend in May, my parent's came up to Kansas City to visit and spend Mother's Day with us. We discovered our favorite KC barbeque joint, Oklahoma Joe's! The food is AMAZING, and but the best part of the whole thing, the location we first visited was in a gas station! Seriously, it's good!

The next weekeend was graduation at MU, we didn't get a chance to make it back to the actual ceremony but got to stay at Stauffer's uncle's awesome house in Jefferson City. Stauffer and lots of his family came up for his graduation and commissioning! Fun memories with friends, very tasty food, and one crazy uncle=a GREAT weekend!

Next, Mom and her friend Mrs. Younkin and her daughter Leah came up to visit! It was a fun girls weekend and Jeff was a trooper! He again cooked his specialty French toast! It was a beautiful weekend and we were able to a beautiful night by visiting the Country Club Plaza and enjoyed some awesine diner food at Winstead's. I recommend the BLT and aWinstead's Frosty! Mom, Mrs. Younkin and Leah packed up and headed out Monday morning and a few hours later, the Bruce and Carol came up to visit! We headed out to the Legends (a huge shopping/dining area near us) to eat barbeque and shop at Cabela's.

The last weekend in May, some great friends came to spend the weekend in KC. Ashley, Brett, Lynn and Stauffer all stayed with us (6 people in a 2 bedroom apartment=full house!) The visit included my first Royals game (with both Ashley and I in our Cardinal's shirts!), a visit to the River Market, an awesome farmer's market downtown, lunch at Oklahoma Joe's (do you see a trend?), pool time, KC Power and Light, Sunday morning breakfast with Jeff's famous french toast and church at Heartland!

This last weekend we were able to attend a wedding of our friends and attend the Robertson family reunion! This reunion was especially neat because Jeff's great aunts from California and Oregon flew in for the occasion. I hope that I am half as spunky and beautiful as these ladies when I'm 78 and 90! It was so fun to hear stories about Jeff's grandma and grandpa!

Whew what a month! We will definitely be updating sooner next time!

Until next time from Kansas,

Emily and Jeff

Easter, exploring KC and a new addition to our home.

Well... yesterday marked 2 months as husband and wife, and seeing that we've only made one post, we've both decided that we are going to have to start pretending like our life is a lot more exciting, so we have things to post. Well, I guess "exciting" is in the eye of the beholder, so we will share with you what we got so far. No safaris or promotions or new cars here... we have had a few new Redbox movies though, and a few other new things, but you'll have to keep reading to see that!

Our first official holiday as a married couple (excluding St. Patrick's Day and Daylight Savings Time) in our "Easter Best":

Our first trip to Kauffman Stadium, home of the KC Royals. There's nothing quite like Busch Staium, but we got to see the Tigers take on the Jayhawks, so it was worth the trip. I'm sure it's the first of many visits (and I'll be wearing my Cardinals shirt each time I go!):

Here's a few shots of the crew that went:

And, our FIRST home furniture purchase:

Our first kitchen table! It was a bit of an impulse buy... when we saw it sitting in the garage we had to have it! That's right... 1 wooden table and 4 chairs to match purchased at a local garage sale here in Kansas, for $40 (thriftiness is Jeff's middle name!)

Alright, that's probably all the excitement you can take for now, so we are signing off for now!

Until next time from Kansas,

Em and Hubs

The first one...

We just got married, 16 days ago to be exact. Since then, we've been navigating through marriage, one day at a time.

We aren't perfect, and we aren't marriage experts, but we love each other a lot. We hope that our experiences will do nothing more than help you stay in touch with us, and hopefully make you laugh. We've quickly learned that laughter is an essential part of wedded bliss.

Stay tuned for updates about our honeymoon and our new home!
