Discovering and enjoying summer in KC

We have decided that since we don't know how long we will be in Kansas City, we might as well see as much of it as we possibly can! The town has lots of hidden gems and fun things to do... and the weather has cooperated with us so far! That being said, it hasn't been the perfect temperature (today was a high of 93 degrees!!), but at least we are used to the heat and the humidity!!

Last weekend, we visited the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens! It's only about 15 minutes away from where we live. The day turned out to be beautiful, even though earlier in the day, it was rainy! We even saw a wedding taking place as we were walking around the park!

The entrance to the park.

A chili pepper garden at the park.

Some of the many patches of flowers at the garden.

This weekend, we were able to go to a Royals game! But, this wasn't just any game, it was the opening game of the I-70 series in KC! The Cardinals were in town and I was so excited to see them play! We had a blast and the Cardinals won 10-5 and went on the sweep the whole series! It was a good weekend to be Cardinals fans! The best par, Kiewit gave out free tickets, so it was a fun, free night out!

Do you see more red or blue? I'm thinking there's a little more red! :)

We even got to see JR. and Manda, friends from Mizzou! They just happened to be at the game that night too... They are getting married next month and it seems that when it comes to Cardinals and Royals, they will be a house divided.

We even stayed for Friday night fireworks! Definitely a fun night in Kansas City!

To top off the weekend, we headed to the Plaza to eat dinner on Saturday night! Jeff had been wanting to try a Brazilian Steakhouse called Fogo de Chao. I was a little skeptical because it was a chain, but boy did he prove me wrong! It was fantastic and very, very filling! We had no idea what we were in for, but it ended up being a buffet. Only, it was the BEST buffet we had ever been to! The meal started out with a delicious salad buffet and then quickly we decided to move on to the main course: 15 cuts of various meat, including grilled pork, bacon-wrapped chicken, garlic beef and filet mignon! And you could eat as much as you want! As soon as your plate was empty a waiter would come around with another cut of beef and slice off a piece to put on your plate! It was amazing and we were completely stuffed after it all! We definitely recommend it for a special night out!! We will definitely be going back!

It is located in the middle of the Plaza!

Yummmm!

You can view everything cooking as you walk by the restaurant on the street. That is A LOT of food!

While it has taken me awhile to adjust to Kansas City, we are definitely enjoying exploring the city and what it has to offer. It's been so much fun, and the summer isn't even half over! It's just started! If you are looking for a fun place to visit for a weekend trip, come to KC! We'd love to explore it with you!

Until next time from Kansas,

Jeff and Em

It's been a long time...

So it's been over a month since our last post and we've been busy traveling and hosting friends and family at our home! It's pretty much been like the Robertson Bed and Breakfast. We might as well hang up a sign and make it official! It's been wonderful but these next couple of weeks, we will be staying around here and exploring KC for ourself.

The first weekend in May, I took a weekend and traveled with my good friend, Jacylyn, to Kentucky to stay with some old friends in Lexington and then go to the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs!

The next weekend in May, my parent's came up to Kansas City to visit and spend Mother's Day with us. We discovered our favorite KC barbeque joint, Oklahoma Joe's! The food is AMAZING, and but the best part of the whole thing, the location we first visited was in a gas station! Seriously, it's good!

The next weekeend was graduation at MU, we didn't get a chance to make it back to the actual ceremony but got to stay at Stauffer's uncle's awesome house in Jefferson City. Stauffer and lots of his family came up for his graduation and commissioning! Fun memories with friends, very tasty food, and one crazy uncle=a GREAT weekend!

Next, Mom and her friend Mrs. Younkin and her daughter Leah came up to visit! It was a fun girls weekend and Jeff was a trooper! He again cooked his specialty French toast! It was a beautiful weekend and we were able to a beautiful night by visiting the Country Club Plaza and enjoyed some awesine diner food at Winstead's. I recommend the BLT and aWinstead's Frosty! Mom, Mrs. Younkin and Leah packed up and headed out Monday morning and a few hours later, the Bruce and Carol came up to visit! We headed out to the Legends (a huge shopping/dining area near us) to eat barbeque and shop at Cabela's.

The last weekend in May, some great friends came to spend the weekend in KC. Ashley, Brett, Lynn and Stauffer all stayed with us (6 people in a 2 bedroom apartment=full house!) The visit included my first Royals game (with both Ashley and I in our Cardinal's shirts!), a visit to the River Market, an awesome farmer's market downtown, lunch at Oklahoma Joe's (do you see a trend?), pool time, KC Power and Light, Sunday morning breakfast with Jeff's famous french toast and church at Heartland!

This last weekend we were able to attend a wedding of our friends and attend the Robertson family reunion! This reunion was especially neat because Jeff's great aunts from California and Oregon flew in for the occasion. I hope that I am half as spunky and beautiful as these ladies when I'm 78 and 90! It was so fun to hear stories about Jeff's grandma and grandpa!

Whew what a month! We will definitely be updating sooner next time!

Until next time from Kansas,

Emily and Jeff
